The Utopia Study Group consisting of English and American literature and culture scholars from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS), The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), University of Wrocław (UWr) and University of Gdańsk (UG) was established at the initiative of Artur Blaim (UG / UMCS) in 2008. The first major task that the US Group undertook was organization of the 11^th International Conference of the Utopian Studies Society-Europe The Spectres of Utopia at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, 7-10^th July 2010. Between 2012 and 2014 the US Group ran the project The Metamorphosis of Utopian Discourse: From Literature to New Media funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) grant. Ever since they have organized seminars, presented papers at the USS-Europe conferences and published books and articles on utopia and dystopia in literature, film and new media. In 2017, the Group organized the 19^th International Conference of USS-Europe Solidarity and Utopia at the University of Gdańsk & European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk. Artur Blaim, together with Olga Kubińska (UG), is editor-in-chief of the Gdańsk University Press series Bibliotheca Utopiana. He has been a board member of the Utopian Studies Society-Europe since 2010. In 2017, Justyna Galant (UMCS), a member of the group since 2008, was elected secretary of the USS-Europe.
