Venue and transport

The conference will take place at the Democracy Institute of the Central European University
15 Nádor Str, Budapest (5th district).

The venue is right in the centre of Budapest, easily accessible by metrolines M2 (red, nearest station is Kossuth tér) and M3 (blue, nearest station is Arany János utca).
The venue is also walking distance from Deák tér, where three metro lines (M1, M2, M3) are accessible. Deák tér is also the terminal of bus 100E, a direct service from the airport. See details below.

You may also use tramline Nr. 2 (nearest stop: Széchenyi tér).
Parking is expensive in the area, we do not recommend the use of private cars.

The venue is fully accessible for differently abled persons. The venue is equipped with fountains for filtered water (both cold and hot), so bring your flasks!

Train stations

Most international trains arrive at Keleti railway station. From here you can take metro line 2 (red, direction: Déli pályaudvar) until Kossuth Lajos tér station. The venue is a few minutes walk from there. Should your train arrive at Nyugati station, the venue is ca. 15-20 minute walk, but you may also take Bus nr. 9 or metro line 3 (direction: Kőbánya-Kispest) until Arany János utca.

Transportation options from the Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport to Budapest City Center:

Public Transport:

  1. Direct bus option
Bus line 100E runs directly between Liszt Ferenc International Airport and the center of Budapest, Deák Ferenc tér. The bus service operates around the clock, seven days a week and Bus 100E provides a convenient, cost-effective and fast connection between the airport and the city center. The special Airport shuttle bus (100E) ticket costs 2200 HUF (about 6 euros) and is available for purchase at all BKK customer service centers, ticket offices and ticket vending machines, or in the Budapest GO app. Please be aware that no other types of tickets or travel passes are valid on line 100E. For more details, please visit this site of BKK (https://bkk.hu/en/travel-information/public-transport/airport-shuttle/
  1. Bus + Metro 3 line
  • Another (less comfortable, but really cheap) option is the bus 200E that you can find right next to the direct bus line 100E, at the airport terminal. This bus runs between the airport terminal and the first stop of the Metro 3 line, called Kőbánya-Kispest. You will need a normal single ticket pass for the 200E bus, that you can buy at all BKK customer service centers, ticket offices and ticket vending machines, or in the Budapest GO app. If you are taking this option, you will need to take the bus 200E to its last stop –  Kőbánya-Kispest, from where you will need an additional single ticket for the metro. The metro line 3 runs to the city center, stopping at Deák Ferenc tér and Arany János utca (both ca. 10 min. walk from the conference venue). Please note that unlike the 100E line, with this option, you will need to change (bus + metro) and you will need two single tickets (450 HUF each, around 1.1 eur for each ticket). For more details, please visit this site of BKK (https://bkk.hu/en/travel-information/public-transport/airport-shuttle/)

Other options:

  1. Fotaxi (+36 1 2222 222; +36 20 2222 222; www.fotaxi.hu) is the only authorized taxi service of the airport, their booths are located right at the exits at Terminals 2A and 2B. A ride to the city center should typically cost around 15000 HUF (approx. 40 EUR) depending on traffic conditions. All taxis accept bank card payments and must provide a receipt/invoice upon completion of the journey.
Please be aware of exposing yourself to risk if you use non-regulated taxi service providers soliciting at the terminal buildings.
  2. Bolt taxi (similar to Uber) can also be arranged once you arrive. We can’t give an estimate, but you can see the approximate price in the app, once you download it.
